Holy crap! What a trip ... and we did it all wrong we've since figured out... the sleeping I mean.
On Thursday night, we were all ready to go and just waiting for our ride to arrive. Mark had booked it several weeks back.
We hear a car pull up and look out the window and it is a white stretch limo!!! It was a little treat for Makayla that Mark had arranged. The limo was huge. He had some slushies and chips in there for treats. And it was quite neat at night.
There were twinkling stars on the ceiling and different lights all around and some great music. He was a sweet driver and had is son there as well. Just about Makayla's age. He was very proud to drive us out and showed off all kinds of side effects as well. It was a hoot.
It will be my last drive in a limo I think - I was totally sea sick. I couldn't wait to get out of the car. I think the same thing is happening to me that happened to mom ... I used to be able to go on rides, and heights and spinny things and sit in the back seat and do all of this over and over and over. Now, I am pathetic. I am queasy on the merry go round and nervous on the Ferris Wheel. And now and getting nervous of heights too. And getting sea sick in cars. Why is that??? What does age have to do with it???
Anyway, hate it.
We had a bit of time to wait for our flight so had a snack and got what seems to be an excellent book at the bookstore and Makayla read some books while I was looking around. Then we got on the plane.
There was no way that we could sleep. There were doing the safet thing, giving out drinks, giving out food, giving out headseats and newspapers. After all of this and the rotten seats and being excited, we really slept very very little. That was fine though. We really messed it when we got to Ireland as I'll explain.
We got to Heathrow and after all that I've heard I was really paranoid about having enough time or getting lost or missing a flight or losing Makayla or something bad. I never took my hands off her. Anyway, we got from Terminal 3 to 1 (or vice versa) in 40 minutes. There were about 4 people ahead of us to check in for our Aer Lingus flight so that took about 5 mins. Then we had 3.5 hours to wait to board to Dublin. Too bad I didn't ask if we could have gotten on one of the 5 flights between then and our flight. If they had space, I'm sure we could have.
I didn't though, only thought of it later. Found our gate and sort of slept in the chairs while waiting. It was soooooooooo cold in there tho, you couldn't really rest. Had a great flight to Dublin and we were by a window so that was great. Found our bus. Enjoyed the ride through the city and found our hotel.
Got freshened up and went to meet Mark for supper and then back to the hotel room. It was 7.30 in Dublin and 3.30 in the afternoon here. We went to bed. We couldn't stay up. So, we woke at midnight and were ready to go for the day. Mark was passed out and snoring. So, Makayla and I did a bit of journaling chatting and making plans for the next day and mostly wasted all our time trying to get back to sleep.
So this is how we spent the next couple of days. We should have just stayed up until 10 or 11 even if we could barely do it and then went to sleep. Then we would have been on the right track for the next day. Oh well, live and learn.
So, that was our trip over. Left on Thurs, arrived on Fri, ate supper, went to bed.
First thoughts, I think we landed in NY. There are so many cars, so many people ... there were traffic jams on the sidewalk. And about 1 of every 50 people crossed the street in the crosswalk. It was absolutely crazy.
