Epcot

Today we headed to Epcot bright and early and were hoping for nice weather. It was fine but chilly. Later it rained quite a bit more, but we donned our super fashionable garbage-bag-like rain jackets and trooped on.

There were a couple of real thrill rides that the kids LOVED, but they just wanted more. Epcot wasn't all about rides. In a way, it is like a museum. There are 11 countries in the World Pavilion. So, in "Mexico" there are several buildings, eating, shopping, info and all is as it would be in Mexico and even the people working in that area are from Mexico. The same with all of the areas ... China, Japan, Canada, Morocco. In a way, you'd almost feel like you were right there in that foreign country if you didn't know where you were. So, it was beautiful and lots and lots to see and especially buy. But, for the kiddies, who didn't want a museum, that part was boring and a bit of a let down for them.

In the other area, the rides they loved best were Test Track - which Bern I was thinking of you the whole time. The whole thing was about car testing and then a thrill ride out on the track. But, it was GM sponsored. And after you got off the ride, you were right in a GM showroom and could learn all about the cars and fuel and even buy one!!! One giant commercial!!!! Clever. But the kids loved it! It was fun. We would have gone twice, but could only get on everything once due to the lineups.

They had a 3D movie that was just the same, a giant Kodak commercial but it was all subtle like and clever!!! The movie was Honey, I Shrunk the Audience and it was 3D and also, if it was windy, there would be fans blowing on you. At one point, a giant looking dog sneezed on us and a bit of water squirted out. So, P was enthralled and fascinated and a little scared. Just the right mixture. M loved it as much as the first time and amazingly remembered it!!

We also went on Mission Space. With all the prep and video feeds and walk throughs, you really feel like you are about to board a spacecraft on an important mission. You get all strapped in and watch some video as though you are taking off and landing on Mars. In the meantime, they must be spinning the pod or something as you really feel the acceleration and you really feel the G force. After that ride, we were kind of sick and floatly, but still loved the terrificness of totalling creating the environments and sensations!!

We also rode Soarin' ... it is like a hang glider over California with actual footage. Amazing pics and amazing feeling like you are flying, even though you aren't.

Lots else was really interesting and cute, but maybe not "fun" or "thrilling", so the kids are still seeking that .... i wonder if we'll go to a roller coaster park??? That's what I'd love!!!!
