Yes, I'm one of those mothers - I let my baby call 911!!! I was stunned and flabbergasted!! How could a 1 year old possibly configure himself to dial 9-1-1-"Talk" ... well, he did! And then hung up. So, it is registered as a "911 hangup" and they call back. And just to be safe they have to send someone out to make sure that I am really okay.
I was mortified. I was ashamed of wasting resources and felt negligent ... but I wasn't!!! I was right with him. He was touching my leg. And he plays with the phone all the time. It is his favourite toy. And he's never actually called anything before except with redial.
Anyway, the cop was great, very kind and friendly to the kids. I apologized profusely and said that I hated to be wasting resources. He said he'd rather arrive to the scene of everything being fine but having made a mistake than arriving to something really awful. So, I guess that was a good point.
And I learned my lesson, no more playing with the phone - like it or not Deylin, you're cut off!

Ok, I tried to post before and am having difficulty. Argh. Seems to be working now though. I have to say, that story is too funny. I've heard other people tell me it happened. One friend had the police show up and had NO idea that her son had even made the call...she picked up the phone and said, no see, ack, she did see, the number on the phone started with 911...I know what to get D now :)
